Watch Dope Body’s Exhilarating ‘Leather Head’ Clip

Dope Body, leather head

Dope Body’s first-ever gig was intended to be a one-off, but the Baltimore noise-rock crew found the show so raw and rewarding that the foursome decided to ride again. “It was the most fun I ever had,” frontman Andrew Laumann told SPIN last year. “It felt like performance art to me. I didn’t feel like a musician, didn’t feel comfortable being a musician. But I could be a character for this.” Laumann, who doubles as a visual artist, definitely seems inhabited by something in the video for “Leather Head,” the lead cut from his outfit’s forthcoming “Saturday” 7-inch single (due March 19 via Drag City). The sweat-spackled Maryland unit contort and writhe through this knotty bruiser — the first bit of material following last year’s Natural History LP — in a bleak performance space. No frills, no narrative — just four dudes tripping out over their own warped, gut-wrecking groove until the camera feed starts to fizzle.
