Weezer can be counted on for a variety of things: Undeniably catchy choruses with gnomically nonsensical lyrics, disappointing post-2001 albums that exclude superior songs you'll eventually find on B-side collections, and somewhat amusing photos of a teenaged Rivers Cuomo sporting Aquanet metal hair.

SPIN Sessions: Cursive Unplugged
For the latest episode of our new concert series, SPIN Sessions, we invited Omaha's finest four-piece, Cursive, to drop by our New York offices for an acoustic set. The whole band couldn't make it, but frontman Tim Kasher showed up with trumpet player Patrick Newbery to play three songs for our editorial staff.

Anti-SXSW Party: Mess With Texas!
For years, there have been Austin shadow parties and festivals in opposition to SXSW's corporate juggernaut -- the best, known affectionately as Fuck by Fuck You, booked local (and international) punk bands to squall and scream and spill beer all over the backyard of a venue called the "Typewriter Museum" (the 2009 event was redubbed Type by Type Writer).

Cursive Play 5 New Songs at Tour Opener
Cursive launched their U.S. tour Wednesday night at Minneapolis' Triple Rock Social Club, returning to the stage for the first time in seven months. Along with classic tunes, the Omaha band debuted five new songs off their upcoming album, Mama, I'm Swollen, which they recently completed with producer Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes, the Faint, Rilo Kiley) for release this spring.

New Tours: M. Ward, Cursive
Folky troubadour and the "him" in She & Him has unveiled a brief winter tour to celebrate the February 17 release of his sixth solo record, Hold Time. The eight-date outing will kick off February 18 in Boston, MA, and close March 7 in Portland, OR.
