Coronavirus: Here Are the Album Release Dates That Have Changed

The coronavirus has disrupted the entire world, and music isn’t immune. There’s been tour postponements, festival cancellations and musicians even contracting the virus. You can add album postponements now to this growing list of things impacted by the outbreak.

So far, there’s been a handful of musicians who have had to change the release dates on their albums due to the coronavirus pandemic.

And more recently, the continuous protests to fight for Black Lives Matter, artists have pushed planned releases to keep the focus on the movement.

From HAIM to Willie Nelson, here are the artists who have had to reschedule album release:

The Cranberries

The Cranberries have moved the release of the remastered version of No Need to Argue to Nov. 13.

Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey’s #MC30 Anniversary to celebrate the release of her debut album has been postponed to a later date.

“As we continue to fight for equality and justice within our broken systems, I thank you for using your platforms to educate, inform and invoke change. Together let’s bring on a change. Love, Mariah,” she posted on social media, which you can see below.

Liam Gallagher

In March, Liam Gallagher announced that his 2019 MTV Unplugged performance on vinyl would not be ready by the original April 24th release date. But today (May 7), the Gallagher camp has announced that it will drop on June 12.

Dixie Chicks

The Dixie Chicks moved their anticipated first album in a decade, they announced on April 21. A new date for Gaslighter has not been revealed.

Jehnny Beth

Jehnny Beth of Savages has moved her solo album, To Love Is To Live, release to June 12.

HAIM

On March 23, HAIM announced that they were moving the release of Woman in Music Pt. III to the summer. It was supposed to be released on April 24.

Willie Nelson

Nelson’s 70th studio album, First Rose Of Spring, was due out on April 24. But it got pushed to July 3.

Sufjan Stevens and Lowell Brams

The collaboration between singer/songwriter Stevens and his stepfather was bumped up a few days. In explaining why, label Asthmatic Kitty wrote: “We had originally scheduled to release Sufjan & Lowell’s collaborative new-age record this Friday, March 27th, but since things are uncertain for record stores right now, we’ve decided to release Aporia today.”

Dua Lipa

The singer/songwriter announced on March 23 in an Instagram Live video that she was bumping up the release date to March 27 from April 3. “I’m really excited for you all to hear it and, you know, make of it what you will,” she said. “I hope it brings you some happiness, and I hope it makes you smile, and I hope it makes you dance. I hope I make you proud.”

Kehlani

The singer announced on March 15 that she was pushing the release of her album due to the coronavirus outbreak. She added that she wouldn’t be able to think about music at the moment due to the pandemic.

DMA’s

The Australian band announced they were bumping back the release of their new album, The Glow, to July 10 from April 24. “Due to everything that’s going on, we have had to postpone its release. All pre-orders will be honoured and sent out for the new date, and despite the delay the release, we will have new music for you soon,” the group said in a statement.

Jarv Is…

The former Pulp leader’s band have announced that they are moving the release date for Beyond the Pale from May 1 to Sept. 4. “It’s a drag to have to make these changes but we’re sure you understand why they’re necessary. We are looking into ways of doing some kind of “virtual performances” in the interim. We miss you!” the band said in a statement.

Hinds

On March 24, the band rescheduled the release date of their album to June 5. “We all need music now more than ever, and we were so excited to release our album next month and share it with you! but right now, things are a bit scary in spain and the coronavirus is something that is affecting a lot of our loved ones, so for right now we think all of our focus should be on staying safe and staying home, not promoting a new album,” the group said in a statement. They also rescheduled their tour dates.

Lady Gaga

The pop star’s anticipated album, Chromatica, was due out on April 10. But now, it’s been postponed, the singer announced in a tweet on March 25. Her Las Vegas residency was postponed as well.

Declan McKenna

The 21-year-old singer/songwriter pushed the release of his album to Aug. 21.

Biffy Clyro

While they had originally meant to release A Celebration of Endings on May 15, Biffy Clyro will now be dropping their ninth album on Aug. 14.

Margo Price

The outlaw country singer has postponed the release of her album. It was scheduled to drop on May 8. She said she’ll be releasing new singles and music in the interim.

Sam Smith

In a statement posted on Twitter on March 30, Sam Smith announced that they were moving the release of their new album. Additionally, they also said that they’re changing the title of their album.

The 1975

The British alt-pop outfit pushed the release of their new album, titled Notes on a Conditional Form to May 22.

Rufus Wainwright

Wainwright’s ninth studio album, Unfollow The Rules, has moved to July 10.

Psychedelic Furs

The new wave band’s first album in nearly 30 years has been pushed to July 31. It was originally slated to be released on May 1.

PVRIS

The rockers have pushed their album release date back to July 10. “Due to circumstances beyond our control, the release date for our new album ‘Use Me’ has been pushed back to July 10. We’re working on a few things to make it up to you and hold you over. Thanks for your continued support. We hope you’re all staying safe during this time,” singer Lynn Gunn said in a statement.

Norah Jones

The crooner announced in a tweet on April 14 that she is moving her album release date to June 12.
