Blondes Melt Minds With Abstract ‘Andrew’ Video

Blondes recently followed their 2011 self-titled debut album with Swisher, a sophomore effort SPIN dubbed as “darker than anything they’ve done before [and] a huge step up for the duo.” Now, Sam Haar and Zach Steinman have shared a video for “Andrew,” a nine-minute dive into their ever-deepening rabbit hole. Directed by Blondes themselves, the clip (like the previously seen “Elise” short) fulfills the most basic requirement of a music video: it’s a visualization of the track’s sound. Traces of light flicker and flash against abstract shapes; bits of live footage shine through the camera’s broken-kaleidoscope view; deep, frosty colors bleed over, conjuring Breaking Bad‘s “Baby Blue”; and at the end we’re left looking at what SPIN previously described as Swisher‘s “cold, hard, metallic underlay.” Watch it above.
