Au Revoir Simone

Who? This trio of keyboard playing lasses from Brooklyn took their band’s name from a character in Pee Wee’s Big Adventure. Now on an adventure of their own, you can currently catch Erika Forster (vocals/keyboard), Annie Hart (vocals/keyboard), and Heather D’Angelo (vocals/drum machine/keyboard) on tour with Peter Bjorn and John as well as Voxtrot this summer.

What’s the Deal? Their debut LP The Bird of Music is spry and poppy, and certainly delectable enough to woo fans of Electrelane, Broadcast, and the Brunettes. Their sweet voices combine nicely with the electronic saccharine of their keyboards — check out new wave lushness of “Night Majestic” and “A Violent Yet Flammable World” and the carnival-esque “Fallen Snow.” Bouncy and fun, The of Bird of Music is a definite must have if you love girlish indie pop hook-laden with sunny heartache.

Fun Fact: Au Revoir Simone met during a train ride and after getting acquainted, they learned they share a common desire — to start an all keyboard band. Three and half years later and a shift from a foursome to a threesome, they have proved their career is anything but a fleeting goodbye. So much so, that they hit the pop culture stratosphere in 2006 when three of their songs were included episodes of Grey’s Anatomy. JOCELYN VENA
