Aeroplane, ‘We Can’t Fly’ (Eskimo/Ultra)

Having built a reputation with masterful remixes for Friendly Fires, Grace Jones, et al. that update ’80s Balearic beach grooves with contemporary digitization, Belgium’s warmest dance duo become a largely analog and even hotter one-man band for this debut full-length. Vito De Luca’s bag of cinematic riffs now references everyone from Pink Floyd to reggae masters Sly & Robbie. He even resurrects Merry Clayton, the gospel-lunged diva on the Rolling Stones’ “Gimme Shelter,” to wail hair-metal disco, while synth-poppers Au Revoir Simone coo a last-call lullaby. Sophisticated dance-floor mischief rarely gets this sexy.
