Who? Xiu Xiu, the Oakland, CA-bred avant-garde post-rock project of Jamie Stewart, currently featuring Stewart's cousin, multi-instrumentalist Caralee McElroy, as well as percussionist Ches Smith and bassist Devin Hoff.

What? A 25-date nationwide tour in continued support of their Spin-praised set Women as Lovers, kicking off in Los Angeles Aug. 14. Along the way the quartet will be joined by a bevy of opening acts, including Evangelista, Prurient, and former Deerhoof member Rob Fisk's new project, Common Eider, King Eider.

Should I go? Sure. Xiu Xiu's eclectic and colorful sound, and Stewart's weathered, sensitive-sailor bellow translate well live, usually resulting in a hair-standing-on-the-back-of-your-neck experience. And the excellent Women as Lovers only punctuates the tour's urgency, adding to the band's vast catalogue of both older album material, and dictionary-thick collection of B-sides and rarities.
