Wiley, ‘100% Publishing’ (Big Dada)

By: Kevin O'Donnell // June 27, 2011

Over two decades, British grime pioneer Wiley has ricocheted between labels and even tailored his austere rap style for crossover success (2009 U.K. hit “Wearing My Rolex”). But here he’s finally “making the songs I like to make,” or so he claims on the quasi-calypso “Talking About Life.” That approach results in a wild collection, from the frantic bounce of single “Numbers in Action” to the deranged circus-music sampling of “Boom Boom Da Na.” With Wiley’s vocal attack as sharply acerbic as ever, 100% Publishing is a boldly independent declaration.
