White Rabbits, 'It’s Frightening' (TBD)

A spoonful of Spoon helps the music go down.

There’s less biting of the Walkmen’s dramatic style on this piano-driven Brooklyn sextet’s second disc; they’ve stirred in a lot more Spoon instead. But it’s sanctioned this time: Britt Daniel produced It’s Frightening, and his archly cool stamp -- both sonic and attitudinal -- invades tracks that could be mistaken for his own band’s, particularly the clattering, slinky “Rudie Fails” and the stuttering “The Salesman.” Ignore (or embrace) the similarities and there’s plenty to love about songs as lightly brooding and likably grabby as these.
