Watson Twins Plot North American Tour

Critical Mass

by Larry Fitzmaurice

Who? The Watson Twins, a dulcet duo from Los Angeles, CA consisting of identical twin sisters Chandra and Leigh Watson. Known for exhibiting their own brand of harmonized country, as found on 2006's Southern Manners EP, the pair have collaborated with Rilo Kiley frontwoman Jenny Lewis on her own solo record, Rabbit Fur Coat, and are now gearing up for the June 24 release of their debut studio full-length, Fire Songs. What? A 16-date nationwide tour, set to kick off July 9 in Washington, DC before moving up the East Coast and into Canada, with singer/songwriter Tim Fite co-headlining. After a lone date opening up for M. Ward in Milwaukee, the Twins will rejoin with Fite as they move along the northern border of the U.S., ending their sojourn with a homecoming show in L.A. July 29.

Should I go? Sure. The Watson Twins' intimate country tunes are a great listen, as the sisters proved live to SPIN.com at SXSW, and the just announced tour sees the duo hit small clubs and theatres best suited to their quiet, endearing sound. Plus, Tim Fite's new songs, as well as his silly storybook riddles, are always worth the price of admission.
