Tom Vek, ‘Leisure Seizure’ (Cooperative/Downtown/V2)

This British multi-instrumentalist broke out in 2005 with spastic punk-funk and art-damaged pop, which landed him then-coveted cameos on shows like The O.C. The attention may have been too much: Dude vanished soon after, prompting Internet speculation on his whereabouts. With Leisure Seizure, Vek doesn’t retool his sound much — slabs of jittery synths underpin his urgent yelps, which start to grate over 12 tracks. Much better is the roughshod, guitar-powered “World ?of Doubt,” which vibes ?like the hottest junk-?shop-pop number Beck ?has recorded in years.?
