Stills, 'Rememberese' (Vice)

There are Canucks in Brooklyn, dear friends, and they’re a stubborn bunch, refusing to choose between disco bass lines and jangly Peter Buck arpeggios. The first EP by Montreal transplants the Stills features fewer songs (three, plus one remix) than this four-piece outfit has members, but it packs a lot of moody reverie into 15 minutes. On “Still in Love Song” and “Killer Bees,” guitars rattle, ambient atmosphere burbles, and dogged beats keep the traffic moving. The band downshift for “Talk to Me,” a snippet of’60s-style folk that evokes hipsters frolicking on a sunny hilltop, vintage sneakers kicked off, far from an uptight world.
