REVIEWSRusko, ‘O.M.G.!’

O.M.G.!
Critical Mass
Label: Mad Decent/Downtown

by Mikael Wood

The debut album by this Leeds-born, L.A.-based dubstep dude doesn't always live up to its overexcited title. "I Love You" and "Dial My Number," for example, sound like big-bass video-game music-appealingly bloopy but hardly crossover-ready. When Rusko hooks up with the right vocalist, though, the songful results justify the hype: "Hold On," with Dirty Projectors' Amber Coffman, is as warm as a mid-'90s Adina Howard remix, while Gucci Mane gives "Got Da Groove" a killer shot of thug-funk swagger.
