Ponytail, 'Do Whatever You Want All the Time' (We Are Free)

Don't look to Ponytail's third album for clues about whether the quartet has broken up; you're better off simply basking in its bouncing-round-the-room glee. Electronics and dub tricks add variety and mood to the group's controlled, dual-guitar caterwaul ("AwayWay," instrumental "Beyondersville/Flight of Fancy"). The sonic icing is provided by elfin squawker Molly Siegel, who exults in giddy non sequiturs ("Why? I don't know why!") as Do Whatever You Want's mood elevator herky-jerks from climax to happy climax.
