Best known for a name-check on the Flaming Lips album Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots, Boredoms percussionist Yoshimi P-we (who also plays guitar and sings here) has developed a playful organic tribalism with this all-female side project. But what's so brilliant about OOIOO's fifth album is how Yoshimi finds spiritual connections between unlikely genres: the favela beats of "UMA" segue into the Canterbury fusion of "KMS," while the 15-minute "SAI" meshes the Mission Impossible theme, girl-group harmonies, and Steve Reich's minimalist marimba pieces.
