My Morning Jacket Announce Lengthy U.S. Tour

My Morning Jacket

Who? Exploratory, Southern-tinged rockers My Morning Jacket, led by grizzled frontman Jim James, and featuring bassist Tom Blankenship, drummer Patrick Hallahan, multi-instrumentalist Carl Broemel, and keyboardist Bo Koster.

What? A 24-date U.S. outing in support of the quintet’s fifth studio record to date, Evil Urges. The tour, entitled “An Evening with My Morning Jacket” — lose the band’s Aug. 21 gig at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheater with opener the Black Keys — will roll out with an album-welcoming gig at New York’s Radio City Music Hall June 20, then kick off proper-like with a hometown show in Louisville, KY Aug. 16. The trek will then hit cities like Dallas, Atlanta, and Seattle and cap with a pair of shows in Chicago, Oct. 9 & 10.

Should I go? Absolutely! My Morning Jacket — on the cover of Spin‘s May issue — are renowned as one of, if not the best live act touring today. And Evil Urges‘ slow burning jammers, straight-forward ass-kickers, and down-tempo acoustic ditties are sure to add spice to the quintet’s already mind-blowing live set. And if you simply can’t wait to catch their live show, hold yourself over with the My Morning Jacket’s first-ever performance on Saturday Night Live May 10.
