Morgan Geist, 'Double Night Time' (Environ)

New York's professor of disco studies holds a sober seminar.

Morgan Geist has been so busy shepherding the disco resurgence, releasing albums as Metro Area (with Darshan Jesrani), digging up dance curios (for his Unclassics mix), and running his Environ label that a decade has passed between solo albums. Jeremy Greenspan of Junior Boys comes along to whisper keening New Romantic vocals here, with the twosome looking back to the techno future on "Detroit," and Geist emulating Giorgio Moroder soundtracks on the moody "Skyblue Pink." While LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy gives disco a punky, in-your-face edge, Geist keeps it coolly retro.
