Mark McGuire, ‘Get Lost’ (Editions Mego)

At age 25, experimental musician Mark McGuire has released more than 30 solo records, including 2010’s Living With Yourself, a deeply felt remembrance of his youth. His latest is dedicated to “the spirit of the summer night sky,” and that’s an accurate, if slightly cornball, description of these six impressionistic guitar instrumentals. Acoustic numbers like “When You’re Somewhere” veer into trite New Age or Keller Williams jam-band territory, but when McGuire drops in burbling digital loops, as on opener “Get Lost” or sprawling 20-minute closer “Firefly Constellations,” he captures the eerie feeling of wandering wide-eyed through a sleepless metro-polis.
