REVIEWSLindstrøm & Christabelle, ‘Real Life Is No Cool’

Real Life Is No Cool
Critical Mass
Label: Smalltown Supersound

by Larry Fitzmaurice

For Norwegian cosmic-disco pioneer Hans-Peter Lindstrøm, space really is the place: He took listeners on an epic odyssey with the 29-minute (!) title track to 2008's Where You Go I Go Too, and this collaboration with chanteuse Christabelle soars into equally trippy realms. The Moroder-indebted tunes on Real Life are more pop-friendly, but the chopped-up vocal samples on opener "Looking for What" are guaranteed to meld minds, while airy centerpiece "Keep It Up" defies gravity via handclaps and delicately chiming bells.
