Jukebox the Ghost, ‘Everything Under the Sun’ (Yep Roc)

Nervous energy seeps from every note of Jukebox the Ghost’s catchy (and at times annoying) second album. Polishing the snappy pop of their 2008 debut, the Philadelphia-based trio crafts thoughtful tunes about relationship angst and introspective wandering, though it’s often hard to get past drummer Jesse Kristin’s fidgety beats and Ben Thornewill’s hyperactive piano. Still, tracks like the Billy Joel–inspired “Mistletoe” and “The Sun,” which evokes Queen’s florid epics, prove insanely hard to shake. In the hands of a calmer band, however, they might be more fun.
