The Juan MacLean, 'Everybody Get Close' (DFA)

Who says the Internet killed the B-side? Collecting assorted rarities, outtakes, and remixes, Everybody Get Close shows that there's more to John MacLean than his albums suggest. The unhinged "X2" and the head-down groover "Let's Talk About Me" breathe new life into acid house, while the downy disco fugue "When I Am With You" nicely balances out pumping sing-alongs like "Feel So Good." "Deviant Device" is slow-motion dub techno, and the whooshing, burbling "The Robot" pays homage to vintage sci-fi soundtracks. Remixers Cut Copy, Jee Day, and Holmes Price round out an anthology that holds its own against MacLean's "official" releases.
