Dwele, ‘Sketches of a Man’ (RT/Koch)

Save for the brilliant 2003 single “Find a Way,” feathery Detroit crooner Dwele is mostly known as an R&B supplicant on rap hits like Kanye West’s “Flashing Lights” and Common’s “The People.” But even if his third album doesn’t become a long-overdue breakout, he still triumphs modestly on this collection of tracks glowing with intelligent warmth. On lovely tunes such as “A Few Good Reasons,” Dwele sings wryly, “If we had computer love / I would let you hack on my space.” And as his voice dips and rises like a melodic pendulum, he impresses as a man confidently alone at his keyboard, emanating dignified, sweet soul.
