The Concretes, ‘WYWH’ (Friendly Fire)

“Honey, if you take me back, I will change,” sings Lisa Milberg on “My Ways,” and indeed there’s a rejected-lover quality to the Concretes’ second album minus original frontwoman Victoria Bergsman. Where these typically crafty Swedes used to exude a sexy ’60s-pop vibe, on WYWH the newly synth-enriched melodies and arrangements are just plain sluggish. There’s a more hopeful bounce to “All Day,” a deliciously slinky disco-rock jam–but even that one’s about staying in bed till the sun goes down again.
