After years flailing about as a sorta-punk, sorta-metal, joy-chug bulldozer, Louisville, Kentucky's Coliseum unexpectedly launch a triumphant indie-rock rocket, picking up a less ADD-addled drummer, and scoring a Will Oldham cameo. The band effortlessly moves sideways into a world of mid-tempo pummeling and celebratory hooks. Complete with jubilant tambourines and appropriately paranoid string arrangements, House With a Curse works like a more nuanced, impressionistic Fucked Up or Queens of the Stone Age with some actual Neanderthal battering.
