Baldelli & Dionigi, 'Cosmic Disco?! Cosmic Rock!!!' (Eskimo)

Mastermix from guy who gave Italian disco a good name.

DJ Daniele Baldelli spun at the Italian Riviera's versions of Studio 54 and Paradise Garage in the late '70s and early '80s, slowing down reggae and Kraftwerk in order to create a more stoned, so-called "cosmic" sound. But neither the disco nor rock tag applies to this jittery mix, as Baldelli and countryman Marco Dionigi tighten and toughen new-wave throwaways like Martha & the Muffins' "Danseparc" and Thompson Twins' "Beach Culture." The set crackles throughout, but the original version of Tina Turner's hit "Better Be Good to Me" (by New York journeyman rockers Spider, featuring Late Show drummer Anton Fig!) makes for a quirky peak that is bellissimo.
