Anthony Green
'Avalon'
The Warped generation's own pope of mope goes it alone.
Like Sunny Day Real Estate's Jeremy Enigk, Circa Survive singer Anthony Green is his band's most influential (and enigmatic) member, with a nation of emo kids finding solace in the stratospheric vocal lines and elliptical lyrics that mark his band's proggy epics. Avalon, Green's solo debut, isn't quite the 3-D orchestral opus that Enigk's Return of the Frog Queen was (on standouts like "Califone," it's closer to Elliott Smith's leaner acoustic work), but the idea is similar: a set of idiosyncratic, deeply personal ballads powered by an inimitable, if too frequently parroted, wail.
