The arty contrivances -- numbers instead of song titles, impenetrable lyrics delivered in a strange wail, that band name -- are tough to overlook, but these Brits mitigate their affectations with solid, if flailing, songs. Unencumbered by experimental rock's usual fear of choruses, handclaps, and melodies, Give Me a Wall crams epic ideas into wiry packages that are both agreeable and grating. It's an interesting dark alley to walk, with the provocations of weirdos like Liars on one side and the straight-forward, populist dance rock of Bloc Party on the other. | COMMENT
