Hey Kit, right on. It's probably lucky for Krunch that he has so little idea what's really going on, because if he did, it would scare the crap out of him. Brazil is coming on strong, the one's I know are working hard, and their smart. It's true their government is corrupt, but so is ours, and ours is getting worse while theirs is getting better. And they are making the better music. Check out any of the artists (particularly Lulina) on Wild Animal Kingdom's compilation, Brazil Could Be Your Life (http://www.wakrecs.com/) and you'll wish that it was! They want to visit here (most don't want to stay), and anybody lucky enough to visit there will find their life changed in a way that hearing Nirvana or Tupak or Lady Gaga never will.

Chris brown's career is not over. No woman deserves to get hit and even though that was the case as long as Chris brown has fans friends and family that loves him he will always have a career.

It's easy to make a case for something if you grab a handful of annecdotal evidence and ignore the world at large. I am no fan of Nirvana. I loathe Nirvana, they represented a return to absurd rock values that I had hoped were dead and gone. They aimed for a cross between Black Flag and Black Sabbath (a paltry ambition) but they achieved was a recapitulization of Black Oak Arkansas. But it is impossible to ignore (if you live in the real world) that grunge represented ground zero for the innovative, inclusive, musical synth-based styles of the 80s (New Wave, or whatever) Technical guitar playing (Dweezel Zappa even put the instrument down for a while, there was no market for what he was doing) and hair metal, among other things. What followed was gloomy, depressing, and inartuculate. I don't know why you knock Collective Soul, I have liked what little I heard of them. They had good songs that displayed a stylistic range that grunge never achieved. The 17th Rock Myth that the Spin guys forgot to include: the irrelevancy of Spin Magazine to contemporary life. The last time they were relevant was when they covered The Human Skab. What is happening in music today is everything and nothing. Wow that's one of the worst reviews I've read in a while. Dripping with pretension. I, in fact find this album to be one of the better albums this year and give it an easy 5/5.

I realize you're young and hip and all, and that you need to allow space for irony (Tom Jones' Kiss) as well as your love for kitsch. I realize that you have only 50 slots and not every song can make it. I even realize, given the depth of the writing here that you may also just be a bunch of hipsters who have never heard of her. But your omission of Aretha Franklin's Respect is a musical and cultural disgrace. I think you've finally given me a reason to stop reading spin.

Great list but epic fail for not including Johnny Cash's "Hurt," which should be #1 with a bullet.

Hey SPIN, when you embed a YouTube video player and crop away the screen, you leave us clicking PLAY repeatedly to make the song start without letting us easily figure out that it's never going to. this is frustrating. i thought the guy had an angle. but sayin' that a radiohead show is the expression of boredom makes no sense. it's the best gig: you get rock'n'roll, you get space music, you get jazz, you get it all.

Where is Janes Addiction version of "sympathy for the devil" or "rock and roll" for that matter??? Those are almost better than the original. How about Tool's version of "no quarter"? Either one of those 3 have to know out DEVO.
