Dani Siciliano
'Slappers'
House-music seductress is also a crafty producer.
An American-born Londoner and longtime vocalist for experimental house kingpin Matthew Herbert, Siciliano is a pretty sharp producer herself, as the spiky rhythms and alternately soothing and what-was-that? noises of her second solo disc demonstrate. In addition to the laptop giddyup of "Why Can't I Make You High" (glitch twang?), she crosshatches her own vocals gorgeously on "Repeats." The effect is like gauze with teeth -- chill-out music that never stops looking over its shoulder.
