Love Psychedelico, 'This Is Love Psychedelico' (Hacktone)

If Noel Gallagher doesn't go gaga over this, we give up.

Concocting an Asian update on '90s Britpop that often eclipses the catchiness of their original sources, this Tokyo duo offers further proof that the right variation on proven Beatles and Stones riffs can leap over any language barrier. Singer Kumi brays in deadpan Japanese, saturated with enough seemingly random English slang to ensure that the hooks stick without ever revealing any linear logic -- that's the "psychedelico" part. The "love" is in the exactitude of the arrangements: Each precision-engineered riff and filigree fits precisely in the necessary spots. No fat, no filler, all fun.

Really a great review of a band that's way overdue in the West.

I've been waiting for a review of this album to appear in a major music publication ... and SPIN gets the gold! Great summary of a great album that I hope propels these guys to widespread acclaim in the U.S.

This is a great album by a great band. The are good in the studio and better live. Their music is better than most of what is played on the radio today. Can't wait for a new album.
