Zola Jesus finally feels like she might be strong enough to take on the music industry. “I struggle with feeling incredibly vulnerable at every point in my life,” she says, pointing to her chunky silver bracelets and jewelry. “These help me feel a little bit tougher.” Earlier this summer, the innovative electro-rock singer (born Nika Roza Danilova in Arizona in 1989)—who plans to release her new album, Taiga, on October 7 — took SPIN on a trip through some of her favorite New York City spots to talk about her musical and aesthetic inspirations. Click through the gallery to see what Zola had to say about Run the Jewels, quitting Twitter, and the return of the pumpkin spice latte.
