Toyota and SPIN Present Soundwave at Outside Lands 2014

“The coolest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco,” said Mark Twain. Concertgoers traveling to Outside Lands 2014 knew better than to take Twain’s words lightly, whether that meant layers of sweatshirts or Care Bear onesies. If you were New Orleans’ Queen of Bounce, Big Freedia, you stayed warm by surrounding yourself with a retinue of backup dancers and copious twerking. Freedia was one of many acts who stopped by Toyota and SPIN’s Soundwave tent at this year’s festival. Joining her for sets throughout all three days were L.A. anthem-rockers Night Terrors of 1927; Brooklyn electro-pop act Bear Hands; tongue-tied alt-rock hitmakers Grouplove; singer-songwriter and Macklemore homie Fences; Aussie upstart folkie Vance Joy; and finally the inimitable Wayne Coyne, of the Flaming Lips, who sat down for an in-depth Q&A. Enjoy the magic of three days of festival tomfoolery in this gallery.
