SPIN and Ray-Ban partnered on October 21, 2010, for an exclusive bash inside of the DCTV Firehouse in downtown New York City.When not taking in performances by Local Natives and Titus Andronicus (and an Animal Collective DJ set!), party-goers could enjoy the Rare Finds art installation which included work from a group of young artists and spanned variety of styles including stop motion video, graffiti, street art and pop art.

With their interactive gallery dedicated to selling limited edition, high-quality prints at a modest price point, Posterchild Prints strives to make art accessible to everyone. The company donated several works, including Head Wound by Joshua Petker, Mad Hatter by Pose, Desire by Deedee Cheriel, and La Psicologia Del Deseo, by artist and DEVO front man Mark Mothersbaugh, to the Rare Finds installation.

New York City’s Volume Black Gallery aims to promote young, cutting edge, contemporary designers, including Elizabeth Flores who lent her work Give Me Some Sugar to the installation. Brian Whiteley is a self-declared “Urban Pop Assassin,” and his pieces Jealous Beast and Punk reflect that mentality.Whiteley collects trash from the streets of New York, and re-purposes the “garbage” into his art in an attempt to modernize the “Pop” ideology. Jealous Beast utilizes this method through combining found objects with mixed mediums, to create a layered appearance.

The L.A.-based street artist has gained substantial notoriety for his graffiti campaigns. He began his career in fine art, but after feeling constrained by the limitations, began tagging public property with Monopoly Men and other pop icons. His pieces, Monopoly,Twiggy and Bob Dylan were all showcased in the Rare Finds installation.

Self described as “notoriously harmonious” Billi Kid is a street artist, life-long doodler, art enthusiast, and design junkie, Kid’s works blur the lines between graffiti, pop culture, iconography, and traditional art.His illustration M.I.A. was featured at the event as well as SPIN’s August 2010 issue.

Dave Lang recently graduated from New York City’s School of Visual Arts and compiled a stop-motion video collage for the SPIN and Ray-Ban event.Merging cut-up elements from Ray-Ban ad creative and past issues of SPIN, Lang’s stop-motion technique creates the illusion of movement from still images.The unique work was projected throughout the venue, including the stage wall during the event.

An illustrator and designer whose focus is in mural work, Garcia tagged the walls of the SPIN and Ray-Ban event with colorful renderings inspired by the Ray-Ban Rare Prints ad creative.Garcia developed his technique as an illustrator by studying with John Van Hamersveld, another designer best known for his cover design of the Beatles Magical Mystery Tour album.
