While 40,000 people descended on Maryland's Merriweather Post Pavilionfor Virgin Mobile FreeFest, featuring performances by LCDSoundsystem, M.I.A., Pavement, Ludacris, Matt & Kim, Jimmy Eat World, andmore, the party officially got underway Friday night at D.C.'slegendary 9:30 Club with a private performance by Edward Sharpe & theMagnetic Zeros.
