Why He Matters: Born William Benjamin Bensussen in San Diego (he cribs his pseudonym from that city's Gaslamp district), this producer/DJ decamped to Los Angeles in his 20s. There, he hooked up with likeminded artist Flying Lotus, on whose label, Brainfeeder, he produced an increasingly complex series of releases that touch on hip-hop, downtempo, turntablism, and dubstep. His epic tracks aim straight for trippy psychedelia, and go down equally well with backpack hip-hoppers and hippie-leaning jamtronica fans. This versatility has allowed him to grace stages at festivals as diverse as Coachella, Seattle's Decibel Festival, and even the Austin Psych Fest.

You Should Know: The Gaslamp Killer is a favorite performer at the Low End Theory, asoon-to-be legendary underground L.A. venue he curates with buddy Flying Lotus. Their recurring party there has attracted, in recent weeks, an unexpected array of guest stars like Odd Future and Radiohead's Thom Yorke, for whom GLK, as he's known for short, played a willing hype-man earlier this month.
