Noise Pop Goes to College
You can pretty much count on Thursday night lectures at college to be sparsely attended, but last night's Noise Pop-sponsored College Night at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) proved an exception to that rule. Artist Rex Ray began the night by teaching the audience about his experience fighting the man: "I told [Bill Graham Presents], 'This contract basically has fuck you artist.' And I'd be a fool if I didn’t try to fuck you back." Jimmy Tamborello then played the first of two DJ sets. The Postal Service producer (and man behind solo projects Dntel and James Figurine) came prepared for the college theme, battling a hangover sustained from recapturing his youth the night before at the Guns N' Roses show. He even mixed in a few of his own tracks ("To A Fault" and "Apologies") for the class to critique. Disco punk outfit the Paradise Boys capped off the night with a high-energy set, opening with "Even If It Takes All Night." The band were decked out in college kid attire that made them look like the leapt straight out of an American Apparel ad onto the stage. STORY BY MELISSA GOLDSTEIN AND STEPHANIE CASTRO.
