What Made Milwaukee Famous...in Memphis
What Made Milwaukee Famous, named for a line in a Jerry Lee Lewis song, burned up the stage at the Young Avenue Deli in Memphis, kicking off their fall tour. The Austin, Tex.-based foursome recently signed to Barsuk -- home of DCFC, Rilo Kiley and Nada Surf -- who plan to reissue the band's Trying to Never Catch Up in September. The month-long tour will include a stop at Lollapalooza, and they'll play to their hometown crowd at the Austin City Limits festival.
The crowd was enthusiastic to hear the band play everything from instrumental noise rock to Jeff Buckley-tinged power pop, but the heat and late start time on a weeknight kept everyone from getting too crazy. "I thought it was hot in Austin!" singer/guitarist Michael Kingcaid remarked from the stage. RACHEL HURLEY, scenestars.net
