April 4, 2012 – I've never made it to the New York edition of the Unsound festival, the third installment of which kicks off Wednesday, April 18, and runs through Sunday, April 22.

April 3, 2012 – Here's a concatenation of names you probably weren't expecting to see, well, ever: Total Science and S.P.Y., Riya, Dâm-Funk, and Toolroom Records. I've been saying for a while that 2012 is going to be the year of counterintuitive collaborations, and so far my prediction has held up pretty well. (Exhibit A: Diplo, Usher and… Nico Muhly?

March 30, 2012 – You'll have noticed by now that my Friday Five selections tend to be dominated by house and bass music, and they lean towards the intriguing fringes of the genre. This week is no different, taking in the Infrasonics label's mercurial garage, October's moody, retro-not-retro house music, and the young Russian producer Myown's bass deconstructions.
