Menswear designer Billy Reid hosted the fourth installment of his annual Shindig this past weekend, a two-day celebration of “music and fine Southern culture” in his line’s homebase of Florence, Alabama. After a book signing with John T. Edge — director of the Southern Foodways Alliance and writer of the just released The Truck Food Cookbook — at Reid’s flagship store, the party’s focused shifted toward music. Between outdoor shows that featured Wild Cub (who would later invite Reid, a guitarist, to jam during the after party), Doc Daily + Magnolia Devil, the Weeks, the Pine Hill Haints, Bryan Cates and Roman Candle, SXSW and Hangout fest veterans Alabama Shakes took to the stage at the sold-out Shoals Theater in downtown Florence.
