Wiz Khalifa and Nicki Minaj Try on Cyndi Lauper’s ‘True Colors’

Wiz Khalifa brings Nicki Minaj along for an emotional ride on the newly released “True Colors,” a cut from the Taylor Gang rapper’s upcoming album, Blacc Hollywood, due on August 19.

“When I pull up in that white on white / Good God almighty / And that green inside my pocket / Yeah cause that’s my true colors,” the formerly “Black and Yellow” MC sings on the chorus. Elsewhere he extols the virtues of not only marijuan, but honesty and reliability within relationships. Minaj, meanwhile, ducks in for a short half-sung, half-rapped verse on which she still manages to snatch the spotlight.

“They know I’m a mogul for real / I branded a color,” the recently very busy rapper squeals, later referencing her upcoming new album The Pinkprint by admitting she can’t wait to reveal its cover. Though no credits are available yet, it certainly sounds like “True Colors” chops and samples some of Cyndi Lauper’s iconic song of the same name from 1986. Listen to both songs below and decide for yourself, then stream the “Shell Shocked” rapper’s entire new album early courtesy of MTV.
