At his New York concert last night, Arcade Fire’s Will Butler premiered a handful of new tracks from his as-yet untitled solo debut. Taking the stage at Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn a little after 7 p.m., the multi-instrumentalist debuted the scorching relationship-oriented track “Take My Side,” as well as a song called “Finish.”

The 40-minute set featured songs that demonstrated Butler’s simultaneously sweeping yet minutely focused songwriting (“If you come and take my hand / I will buy you a pony / We can cook it for supper / I know a great recipe for pony macaroni”) as well as some unexpected drum machine usage and a band consisting only of two backup singers. Check out “Take My Side” above and watch “Finish” and another new Butler song, “Surrender,” below.
