Wilco Prepping New Album

Back in July, Wilco announced they were splitting with longtime label Nonesuch to form their own imprint. Now, the band are gearing up to record their first record for their new label.

Guitarist Pat Sansone says the group will hit the studio at the end of the month. “We’re taking a couple of weeks off,” he told The Los Angeles Times. “When I get back toward the end of [the] month, we’re getting back together to start working, to start the first writing sessions for the record. We’ve done a little bit of brainstorming, but the real work is going to begin at the end of [the] month.”

Don’t expect the band to put out a follow-up to 2009’s Wilco (the album) anytime soon. As guitarist Nels Cline said in July: “The process of making the next Wilco record is going to be long in terms of the writing and arranging and demoing phase… [T]here’s been all kinds of verbal ideas bandied about, about what direction this record will take, but I don’t believe in any of that stuff because everything changes.”

What direction should Wilco take on their new album? Sound off in the comments.
