Jeff Tweedy Will Produce Your Music for Upwards of $20,500

jeff tweedy, wilco, recording session auction

Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy is willing to make time in his busy schedule as a producer — he’s currently working with Mavis Staples on her next record and recently helmed Low’s upcoming tenth full-length — to record a song with one lucky, affluent fan.

The Solid Sound festival organizer is offering an eight-hour studio session at the Wilco Loft as part of an online benefit auction on behalf of Chicago high school Northside College Prep, where his children are enrolled. Whoever wins the prize will get to work on one song with Tweedy, who will produce, arrange, and possibly play on the track.

“Your session will be tracked by a staff engineer and overseen by Jeff Tweedy who will also help you produce and arrange your song,” the listing reads. “You will leave with a CD of a finished mix.” The online auction ends on March 12, and as of the time of this writing, the leading bid is $20,250, and the next minimum bid must be $20,500.

If the $2,562.50 per hour rate is too rich for your blood, then check out some of the other Tweedy-related items on the Internet auction block. Fans can earn two seats at Tweedy’s sold-out March 13 show at the Vic Theatre (next minimum bid is currently $350) or two seats at the sold-out March 14 Vic Theatre gig (next minimum bid must be $500). Those auctions also close on March 12, and after each show the winners will get a chance to take part in a meet-and-greet with the Wilco leader himself.

Northside was also offering “Burritos with Jeff Tweedy,” which is exactly what it sounds like, but those dinner-invites sold pretty quickly. Too bad, since Tweedy’s been proven to be a hell of a conversationalist.
