Billboard tells us only five albums have spent 16 weeks or more at No. 1 on their Top 200 chart since they started tracking such things — the Titanic and Bodyguard soundtracks, Garth Brooks’ Ropin’ the Wind, Billy Ray Cyrus’ Some Gave All, and now Adele’s 21. The U.K. singer sold 104,000 additional copies of her sophomore album last week according to Nielsen SoundScan, giving her an astounding 33rd week of sales north of the 100K marker. If she does it again next week, she’ll match Billy Ray Cyrus’ 17-week run. We think we speak for everyone on earth when we say, please, Adele, hang on one more week!
2 Through 10: Christian rockers David Crowder Band debut at No. 2 with Give Us Rest (50,000), followed by the Black Keys’ El Camino (36,000) and Drake’s Take Care. Snow Patrol’s Fallen Empires opens in fifth place (31,000), and a bunch of older albums fill out the rest of the Top 10 — Young Jeezy’s T M:103 Hustlerz Ambition, Rihanna’s Talk That Talk, Coldplay’s Mylo Xyloto, and the Now 40 comp.
