‘Weird Al’ Yankovic Hams Up ‘Tacky’ for ‘Conan’

'Weird Al' Yankovic 'Tacky' 'Conan'

“Weird Al” Yankovic has been on a roll lately surrounding the release of his new album, Mandatory Fun. Over the last few days, the parody master has released a steady stream of videos, mocking Iggy Azalea and home improvement on “Handy,” Lorde and conspiracy theorists with “Foil,” Robin Thicke and big dictionaries on “Word Crimes,” and Pharrell and bad taste with “Tacky.” For that last clip, Al and a few celeb pals don some garish outfits and dance their way through Los Angeles’ Palace Theatre, proudly showing off their whack moves.

For his appearance on Conan last night, Al took a similar spin on “Tacky,” this time wearing a jacket so loud it almost drowns out his band. Starting in the makeup area, he performs the single while weaving his way through the show’s serpentine backstage area, strutting around the staff, who either play along or try to remain unnoticed. It’s reminiscent of when the blokes in Spinal Tap kept getting lost in the bowels of a venue, but luckily Al had the camera crew to guide him through the confusing layout all the way to the stage (albeit with a few stops to strut and posture). Eventually, he lands on Conan’s desk, all without missing a note. Even if you’re not an Al fan, you have to admit that it’s pretty impressive stuff.
