Wavves Debut ‘GTA 5’ Song ‘Nine Is God’ During Nonviolent ‘Conan’ Set

Wavves Nine Is God Video Conan Grand Theft Auto 5

As part of Wavves’ gig as virtual DJ on a Grand Theft Auto 5 radio station, the Cali garage-surf band recorded at least one new song that can be heard in the game. Prior to its September 17 release, the quartet took to Conan to debut their track “Nine Is God,” a rollicking number about depression and love.

“Bullet in his head, finally / Picking through the lead, who knows, anxiety,” sings frontman Nathan Williams, who donned a “Los Santos” hat in honor of the video game’s fictional setting. The laid-back track flows with a semi-sweet vibe before Williams launches into a guitar freakout, blasting out the final minute. The band also stuck around to perform the title cut of their latest album, Afraid of Heights, which you can watch below.

Along with Wavves, Grand Theft Auto 5 will feature radio stations hosted by Flying Lotus, Tyler, the Creator, OFF!’s Keith Morris, and Twin Shadow, with A$AP Rocky, Killer Mike, Freddie Gibbs, Yeasayer, and Hanni al Khatib debuting new tracks in the game.
