Sky Ferreira Goes Thug Life in ‘I Blame Myself’ Video

Sky Ferreira, I Blame Myself

In the chorus of “I Blame Myself,” Sky Ferreira pleadingly asks, “How could you know what it feels like to be outside yourself?” In some ways, she answers that question in the new video for the self-deprecating single off of last year’s album, Night Time, My Time. Rocking a black hoodie, fish nets, and Opening Ceremony shades, Ferreira shows us what her life as a thug would look like — as directed by Grant Singer — perhaps in homage to her recent call to stop online haters. Scenes flash of our hostess riding around town with gangsters, and later we find the group on a rooftop in what looks like Compton, hanging behind as Sky sings her heart out. Eventually, though, the “Everything Is Embarrassing” singer winds up illuminated by the lights of a cop car.

“It’s obviously based on true events,” the singer told SSENSE, the company behind the clip, alluding to last year’s drug arrest with her boyfriend, Zachary Cole Smith of DIIV. But we’re still left with questions after the guys on the corner go from intimidating toughs to choreographed dancers in no time.

The video isn’t available to watch below until Friday but, for now, you can watch it in full at SSENSE.
