For a rapper whose debut album hasn’t even dropped yet, Drake is already familiar with the perks of stardom.
In the just-released video for “Over,” the first single off his forthcoming debut, Thank Me Later (out June 15), the former Degrassi: The Next Generation star watches video projections of the high life and sits in a club filled with mysterious women and blurry faces. “[The clip depicts] a struggle between the purities of my past life and what this new life has to offer,” Drake told MTV.
SPIN’s 2009 Rapper of the Year has already amassed a lot of hype for someone without an official release. But from his affiliations with Lil Wayne’s Young Money label, his series of well-received mix-tapes, and blessings from hip-hop royalty, Drake appears to be making all the right moves.
