There are few better places to spend a warm summer evening than a rooftop with friends and beers. But when you're on the roof of SPIN's Manhattan offices, those evening soirees can include something extra special, as was the case recently when Brendan Benson stopped by to perform.

The solo artist and Raconteurs member led his band through a mix of old and new tunes as part of our SPINhouse Live concert series, presented by Newcastle Brown Ale and Onitsuka Tiger. His latest album My Old, Familiar Friend had come out earlier that day, and the set mixed fresh tunes with cuts from his earlier solo records like "Cold Hands (Warm Heart)" and the uber-catchy "Tiny Spark."

Brendan Benson is an amazing artist who is so often underrated. He's a absolute pleasure to listen to and when The Alternative to Love came out it blew me away with how mature and brilliant his sound had become. And then My Old, Familiar Friend came out and it upped the ante again with another album filled with incredible tunes. Brendan is a national treasure. Get to know him well if you haven't already...you will not be disappointed!
