Video Game Gets Rockin’ with Wolfmother, Pixies

If you prefer America’s pastime set to music as watered down as stadium beer, 2K Sports’ upcoming Major League Baseball 2K7 isn’t the videogame for you. Along with new signature style animation highlighting every player’s idiosyncrasies and eerily realistic models, the ballpark is packed with tunes from serious sluggers like Nirvana, the Stooges, Pixies, Wolfmother, the Specials, Tapes ‘n Tapes, and the Thermals, among others.

“We wanted to put together something that was really diverse and unique for video game soundtracks, especially baseball-themed ones,” Tim Rosa, 2KSport’s Director of Brand and Lifestyle Marketing, told SPIN.com. “With the music, we’re trying to present something for everyone, something spanning different eras. I was particularly thrilled to get the Stooges and, as Nirvana hasn’t licensed too many songs for video games, we were stoked Courtney allowed one for the game.”

Though you can’t get a ticket to the action until MLB 2K7 officially comes out in March (for PlayStation2, PlayStation3, PSP, Xbox, Xbox 360, Game Boy Advance, and Nintendo DS), the trailer, set to the relentless rocking of the Walkmen’s track “The Rat,” will give you a chance to see how this new diamond shines.
